Luke Wissell

Luke works as a South Australian writer and director. His lucky finding of Lynne Ramsay's advice to "write about what upsets you" has spurred empathetic, festival-winning films.

A graduate of the VCA's directing program, Luke is best known for his 2020 short drama If I Quit Now (Flickerfest, In The Palace Film Festival, winner Best Director - West End Film Festival) and his 2018 short thriller A Stone's Throw, jointly funded through the AFF Premiere Fund and the Mercury CX (Adelaide Film Festival, Manchester Film Festival). Grounded, Luke's 2016 short drama, won Best Film at multiple film festivals.

Participating in Michael Rowe's acclaimed Feature Writing Workshop, Luke wrote the drama Adult Gathering - depicting a church community in crisis following a scandal. Luke provided additional writing on the upcoming Gravity Films feature doc The Last Daughter. Additionally, Luke's work as a script supervisor includes the upcoming RakaRaka feature Talk To Me and SBS online series A Beginner's Guide To Grief.

Luke was mentored by writer/director Francis Annan during Escape From Pretoria in 2019. His commercial directing includes work for Adelaide-based companies Gravity Films and Anomaly.

When procrastinating, Luke loves stormy surfs and planespotting.
